The professional name “Method Man” is from a 1979 film by the same name. He won a Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group, for “I’ll Be There for You/You’re All I Need to Get By”, in 1996, featuring American R&B singer Mary J. Blige.

Method Man Wu Tang

This hip hop group, Wu-Tang Clan, has been active since 1991. Method Man is among the original members of the group alongside RZA, GZA, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, U-God and Masta Killa.
In the group’s debut album, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), Clifford was among the only two members to get a solo song. The group had a contract with its members that allowed them to release albums under any record label, hence, Smith was first to release a solo album under this contract.

He later decided to sign with rap label Def Jam Recordings releasing his solo debut, Tical in 1994. The clan has since released four studio albums that have been certified gold and platinum.

He began acting in the early 2000s with recurring roles in such television shows as HBO’s Oz as Tug Daniels, HBO’s The Wire, The Twilight Zone and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. On MTV, he hosted the pilot by the name Stung with fellow rapper Redman. He has also made appearances on the TV shows Mind of Mencia and Chappelle’s Show as himself.
In the critically acclaime dtelevision show “The Wire”, Smith he plays the character of Prop Joe’s nephew Melvin “Cheese” Wagstaff.
