BBC is an operational business division of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) responsible for the gathering and broadcasting of news and current affairs. The department is the world’s largest broadcast news organisation and generates about 120 hours of radio and television output each day, as well as online news coverage.
BBC sports is a department of the BBC North division providing national sports coverage for BBC Television, radio and online. The BBC holds the television and radio UK broadcasting rights to several sports, broadcasting the sport live or alongside flagship analysis programs such as Match of the Day, Test Match Special, Ski Sunday, Today at Wimbledon and previously Grandstand.
BBC first began to brand sport coverage as ‘BBC Sport’ in 1988 for the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, by introducing the programme with a short animation of a globe circumnavigated by four coloured rings. Results, analysis and coverage is added to the BBC Sport Website and through the BBC Red Button interactive television service.
The BBC Arabic service started in 1938 as 65 minute broadcasts. In 1940 the broadcasts had grown to 1 hour and 25 minutes, and close to two hours by 1942. By the end of World War II, the Literary Arabic language programme was three hours. The first broadcasts in 1938 featured one news bulletin. Later, by 1940, a second news bulletin followed the morning reading of the Quran.
In 1942 a third news bulletin was broadcast at “midday” at 10:45 GMT, 12:45 local time in the Levant. The news bulletins had essentiall translations of the BBC’s English-language Empire Service, BBC London was in direct contact with the Foreign Office’s diplomatic posts abroad as a source if local news. In 1943 the Literary Arabic Service established a Cairo Office, enabling direct news gathering in the Middle East.
BBC Somali is a BBC World Service radio station transmitted in the Somali language and based in Broadcasting House in West London and in Nairobi, where most of the radio and digital operations are based. Most of the listeners live in the Horn of Africa and nearby regions. It was launched on 18 July 1957. According to the station, it provides a key link between those in Somalia and those elsewhere.

BBC 3 Radio
BBC is a British radio station operated by the BBC. Its output centers on classical music and opera, but jazz, world music, drama, culture and the arts also feature. The station describes itself as ‘the world’s most significant commissioner of new music’, and through its New Generation Artists scheme promotes young musicians of all nationalities.
The station broadcasts the BBC Proms concerts, live and in full, each summer in addition to performances by the BBC Orchestras and Singers. There are regular productions of both classic plays and newly commissioned drama. You can listen them from 90 MHz–92 MHz FM.
BBC 5 Live
BBC 5 Live is the BBC’s national radio service that broadcasts mainly news, sport, discussion, interviews and phone-ins. It was founded in 1995. It is the principal radio station covering sport in the United Kingdom, broadcasting virtually all major sports events staged in the UK or involving British competitors.
BBC 6 Music
BBC 6 Music is a digital radio station run by the BBC, specializing primarily in alternative music. It was known officially as BBC 6 Music from its launch on 11 March 2002 until April 2011. 6 Music was the first national music radio station to be launched by the BBC in 32 years. It is available only on digital media: DAB radio, the Internet, digital television, and in northern Europe through the Astra 2B satellite.
BBC Two Wales
BBC Two Wales is the national variation of BBC Two for BBC Cymru Wales. It is broadcast to Wales from Broadcasting House in Cardiff. The channel can opt out from the main BBC Two schedule to show Welsh made programming, however this is used less frequently than in the past.
BBC Two Wales was the name of the analogue service broadcasting to Wales, and was it was also the brand used on the digital service outside the broadcasting hours used by BBC 2W. BBC 2W was the sister channel to BBC Two Wales, until the Digital Switchover saw the end of analogue broadcasts in Wales. The specific BBC 2W service was closed down and the BBC Two Wales brand used.

BBC 5 Live Sport
BBC 5 Live Sport is a national digital radio station in the United Kingdom, operated by the BBC, and specializing only in extended additional sports coverage. It is a sister station to BBC Radio 5 Live and shares facilities, presenters and management, and is a department of the BBC North Group division.
BBC 94.9 is London’s BBC Local Radio station and part of the broader BBC London network. The station broadcasts across Greater London and beyond, on the 94.9 FM frequency, DAB, Virgin Media Channel 937, Sky Channel 0152, Freeview Channel 721 and online.
